Dr. King began his career as a Baptist minister in Montgomery, Alabama.  He used this platform to further the cause of civil rights for African Americans but also for anyone who was oppressed.  His arguments were strong but even more so was his delivery of it, becoming one of the most revered and quoted orators of our time. At the age of thirty five, he was one of the youngest to receive the Nobel Peace Prize (NobelPrize.org, Jan. 18, 2021).

Tragically, he life ended when he was assassinated on April 4, 1968, however his legacy lives on. A memorial has been built in his honor in Washington D.C. with a quote etched in the stone which says, "Out of a mountain of despair, a stone of hope."
